When walking around in a zoo, you immerse yourself into the wonderful world of animals from all over the world.
La Aurora Zoo, officially known as Parque Zoológico La Aurora, is one of the largest and best zoos in Latin America. The zoo was opened in December 1924 in the southern part of Guatemala City.
The zoo is a must-go spot for tourists, especially from Central America. On many occasions, the zoo also hosts a special event where it stays open late at night so that people can observe how the animals' behavior changes when the sun sets.
The zoo is divided into four parts: Asia, Africa, Oceania and the Americas. And the animals are assigned to each group based on their natural habitats in the wild. The zoo also includes a nursery for young animals, an aquarium and a herpetarium, or an enclosure where all the reptiles and amphibians are kept.
I have compiled a photo gallery of all the zoo animals you can find in La Aurora Zoo. All photos were personally taken by me (with my Canon EOS Rebel T6 camera).
The zoo is open Tuesday through Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The zoo is closed on Mondays for maintenance purposes. Tickets to enter the zoo are worth Q20 for children who are 2 to 12 years old, and Q40 for adults. For adults 60 or older, tickets are Q23.
Make sure to follow COVID-19 guidelines, including disinfecting hands and wearing a face mask.
Now it's time to learn about the different types of animals inside the diverse nature scene of La Aurora Zoo.
