These are some Non-Disney animated movies you probably remember in your childhood

When we think of Disney, the first thing that comes into mind is the animated feature films. One important aspect is the ability to make unforgettable childhood memories while watching these movies. However, Disney is not the only company making great works.


In fact, you probably remember watching an animated movie that was not made by Disney. So, here is a sample of some Non-Disney animated classics.


All Dogs Go to Heaven (1989)

In this animated feature, canine casino owner Charlie is shot by gamber Carface, but sneaks back to Earth from doggie heaven to exact revenge on his killer. He later befriends a young orphan, Anne Marie. Throughout the movie, Charlie learns the importance of friendship.


"All Dogs Go to Heaven" is part of several animated movies directed by Don Bluth, a former Disney employee who left to start his own animation company.

The Secret of NIMH (1982)

In another movie directed by Don Bluth, "The Secret of NIMH" is based on the novel "Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH." In this fantasy adventure movie, Mrs. Brisby must move her family out of her house before the farmers start plowing the field. However, she is unable to do so because her son, Timothy, is ill. As a result, Mrs. Brisby seeks aid of a colony of rats with heightened intelligence.

The Iron Giant (1999)

"The Iron Giant" is about a young boy, Hogarth, who befriends a 50-foot tall robot from (voiced by Vin Diesel) from outer space. However, paranoid government agent Kent Mansely and the military are intent on destroying this robot. It is up to Hogarth to save the robot from danger.

An American Tail (1986)

This movie is another Don Bluth classic definitely worth watching. "An American Tail" is about a Russian mouse family, the Mousekewitzes, immigrating to the United States for a chance of a better life. Unfortunately, Fievel gets separated from his family and must relocate them while adjusting to a new country.


A sequel, "An American Tail: Fievel Goes West," was released in 1991.

The Swan Princess (1994)

Based on Tchaikovsky's "Swan Lake," Princess Odette (voiced by Michelle Nicastro, vocals provided by Liz Callaway) is cursed by a power-greedy sorcerer that causes her to live like a swan during the day. The curse can only be broken by a vow of everlasting love.


The movie has since been followed by direct-to-video sequels starting in 1997.

Anastasia (1997)

In another Don Bluth classic, Anastasia (voiced by Meg Ryan), the last surviving child of the Russian Royal Family joins two con men, Dimitri and Vladimir (John Cusack and Kelsey Grammer), to reunite with her grandmother, the Dowager Empress Marie.

FernGully: The Last Rainforest

The magical inhabitants of FernGully, a picturesque rainforest in Australia, must do everything they can to save their home, which is threatened by logging and pollution. Crysta, a curious fairy who lives in FernGully, accidentally shrinks a young boy named Zak after seeing that humans are, in fact, real. Eventually, Zak realizes the damage logging has done to the rainforest and sides with Crysta and FernGully's residents.

The Land Before Time (1988)

In "The Land Before Time," also directed by Don Bluth, a young Apatosaurus named Littlefoot teams up with some new young dinosaur friends (Cera, a Triceratops; Ducky, a Saurolophus; Petrie, a Pterondon; and Spike, a Stegosaurus) to set out for the fabled Great Valley after the tragic death of his mother.


The movie eventually spawned into a franchise consisting of thirteen direct-to-video musical sequels.
