Chocolate chip cookies is the classic American staple that everyone loves, especially when they are baked from scratch.
For a brief history lesson, the original chocolate chip cookie recipe was created by Ruth Wakefield in the late 1930s. She ran the Toll House restaurant in Whitman, Massachusetts. The recipe first appeared in Wakefield's cookbook "Tried and True," and it showed up on Betty Crocker's radio program. This further secured the reputation as America's favorite cookie.
In 1939, Wakefield sold the rights to her recipe and the Toll House name to Nestlé.
So, my favorite recipe is the Original Nestlé Toll House chocolate chip cookie recipe! You can find the recipe online or on behind a bag of Nestlé Toll House chocolate morsels.
These are the ingredients you need:
2 1/4 cups of all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon of baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup (2 sticks) of butter, softened - I like to use unsalted butter
3/4 cup of granulated sugar
3/4 cup of packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
2 large eggs
2 cups (12-ounce package) NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Semi-Sweet Chocolate Morsels
1 cup chopped nuts - this ingredient is optional, so I omit this ingredient and my cookies come out just as tasty
Now it's time to make the cookies in three easy steps:
Preheat oven to 375° F.
Combine flour, baking soda and salt in small bowl. Beat butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar and vanilla extract in large mixer bowl (I love using my Kitchenaid stand mixer for this) until creamy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Stir in morsels and nuts. Drop by rounded tablespoon onto ungreased baking sheets.
Bake for 9 to 11 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on baking sheets for two minutes; remove to wire racks to cool completely.
My favorite part about baking chocolate chip cookies is sitting right in front of the oven, watching the cookies baking. I also enjoy the scent of freshly-baked cookies coming right out of the oven.
These cookies are absolutely enjoyed with a glass of cold milk.
My secret to making the best cookies? ALWAYS make sure the ingredients are precisely measured. In other words, be sure to level off any excess dry ingredients so that the ingredients are perfectly in level - or even - with the top of a measuring cup or spoon.
There are plenty of chocolate chip cookie recipes out there, depending on how you want the texture of the cookies. It can be chewy or it can be nice and crunchy. However, the Nestlé Toll House Original Recipe is always my go-to recipe because it gets back the roots of Whitman's original recipe.
