Santo Domingo Del Cerro, an exclusive part of the Casa Santo Domingo hotel and museums, contains ample space for amazing modern art collections from both national and foreign artists.
The museum is located 500 meters from the entrance to Antigua Guatemala, and you will find a cobblestone road leading up to the cultural center.
There are three permanent museums dedicated to important Guatemalan figures and several art galleries containing temporary art galleries (which last anywhere from three to six months) from guest artists.
One of the permanent museums is the Pope Museum, which is designed with furnishings and decorations that were originally used in the sacristy that hosted Pope John Paul II when he did his last visit to Guatemala.
Two biographical museums exist in Santo Domingo Del Cerro, belonging to Miguel Ángel Asturias and Efrain Recinos. The first museum contains personal pieces of work written by Asturias, the Nobel Prize-winning author.
The second museum consists of artwork and personal pieces by Recinos, including prizes, trophies and diplomas that were awarded by different Guatemalan institutions. The museum also contains several photos of Recinos ranging from childhood to adulthood.
Santo Domingo Del Cerro also offers a unique range of indoor and outdoor venues for weddings, business meetings and seminars. In addition, there is a small and beautiful wedding chapel to hold wedding ceremonies and a great space to hold wedding receptions.
You can also enjoy some delectable food surrounded by impressive landscapes at the restaurant, El Tenedor del Cerro.
It is open Monday to Sunday, and visiting hours are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
